When a parent's doctors are in another city or another country, news arrives late and in pieces. A little structure, agreed with your parent, makes it easier for everyone.
Agree on it together
Your parent decides who sees what. Talk about who should be kept informed: you, your siblings, a neighbor, their doctors. Ask whether they'd like you to join some visits by phone. Doctors often need your parent's permission to talk with family, so ask their doctors which forms they use.
Keep one place for everything
Reports, prescriptions and visit notes tend to scatter across portals, email and photos on a phone. Keep them in one place, with the medications and the doctors' names and numbers, so whoever is helping can find them.
Agree on how news travels
Decide who tells whom, and how: email or WhatsApp, and in which language. A short note after each result or visit, saying what's new and what's still open, saves many long calls.
Make visits count
Collect questions for each doctor between visits. When a doctor sees your parent for the first time, bring a summary of their history, medications and recent results.
In Vitaspan
Your parent keeps their records in Vitaspan on their own iPhone, in English or Spanish. In their care circle they add the people who help, each with their language, and their email or WhatsApp number. After a new result or a visit, Vitaspan drafts an update for each person, and your parent sends it after reading it. Names, emails and phone numbers stay on that iPhone. Writing updates uses Vitaspan Plus.
